Tarkarli in Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is tourist destination and an attractive beach. Tarkarli has the state's only scuba diving training centre. A long coastline and pristine clear waters make this beach ideal for a romantic escape. Located at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. This place has gained prominence because of its long and narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters and water sports. On a clear day, one can see the bed unto a depth of 20 ft. Tarkarli is 546 km away from Mumbai and 6 km south of Malvan, on the west coast of India in Konkan region. This beach can be rightly called as ‘Queen Beach’ of Sindhudurg. Tarkarli Beach is God-gifted with natural safety, famous for its crystal clarity water. Sea and sand blending in enchanting natural harmony, gracefully cruising boats in calm and cool river waters add to the beauty of this beach. Boating and dolphin watch rides are very popular activities during a Tarkarli holiday. The boating operators have a few fixed routes and sightseeing points. Sun rise near boating point in Tarkarli is a scenic moment. Best time to see Dolphins is before 9am because as Sun rises overhead they go deep in the sea. Around January – February, you can even spot a big family of dolphins basking in the warm sun enjoying the clear ocean. They swim in synchronization making it a spectacular view. These boats cost you Rs 800 per boat. If you are in a group per head cost comes down drastically and if you are a couple you can pay Rs 800 and have privacy. The boat ride is for 2 – 3hrs including visit to Tsunami Island and 5-6 points around. Enjoy Sunset point, lots of photography and evening boating. The Houseboat - MTDC has two houseboats at Tarkarli, anchored in the creek, about 3 km from the Resort. Excellent for a one-day (overnight) stay. The houseboat takes you for a 2-hour round of the creek in the evening, and another in the morning. Overnight, you’re anchored at the Deobaug Jetty, a nice place with lots of greenery around. There are various boating points along the Karli river where for Rs 800.00 per boat you will be taken about 7 kms into the sea to see the school of dolphins. Please do not forget to ask your boat operator that you want to have a bath in the island, they call it the island bhet, very safe surrounded on all sides with the sea and you could easily wade in knee deep water and enjoy. The boating operators have a few fixed routes and sightseeing points like Bhogwe beach Nivati rocks etc during boating from Tarkarli. Located off the coast of Devbaug half an hour away from Tarkarli, Tsunami island is the hub of all the water sports activities in Tarkarli. Devbaug sangam where Karli backwaters meets the sea. 

Exploring under water marine & other aquatic life, corals and rock scapes using a Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus is called Scuba Diving!! - Tarkarli " Scuba Diving " with trained divers offers a peek into one of the most exhilarating and exciting adventures right in Maharashtra. A joy ride into the mystic world underwater to have the look at the vibrant colors and marine life under water. All equipments are provided at the site including wet suites. Wash rooms and changing rooms are also available. The S.C.U.B.A diving operators association has fixed the tariffs for dives at Rs 1500 and the charges for photography underwater is extra (Rs 200) apart from the diving charges. The coast near Tarkarli is abundant with coral reefs and also is blessed with clear waters making Tarkarli a great site for SCUBA Diving. The vicinity of the Sindhudurg fort is the primary site for SCUBA Diving in Tarkarli. Tourists are ferried from Dandi beach to the diving site for SCUBA Diving and snorkeling. Marine biologist Mr Sarang Kulkarni played an important role in introducing SCUBA diving in Tarkarli. SCUBA Diving operators in Tarkarli also offer under water photography so that one can take memoirs of their first ride underwater back home and post it to Facebook too!! Scuba Diving in Tarkarli is made possible even for those who Do NOT know swimming. Trained guides hand holds the diver through out the time underwater. The dive offered in Tarkarli is more of a joyride into the underwater world and not the traditional SCUBA Diving. SCUBA Diving in tarkarli is done with a air line diving system where oxygen is stored in a tank in the boat and the diver only carries the air line tube. As SCUBA Diving in tarkarli is done with this system minimal training is required and tourists can have a peep into the underwater world with practically five minutes instructions! There are a few sites in and around Tarkarli identified as ideal sites for snorkeling like the Sindhudurg fort, Devbag sangam and Vengurla rocks. 

Parasailing & Water sports in the backwaters is a newly introduced activity at Tarkarli where one can fly over the backwaters and also get a beautiful view of the confluence of the backwaters and the sea. High power boats are used for parasailing. All the major water rides including jet skiis are available in Tarkarli. There are more than one operator of water sports in Tarkarli and the rates vary from operator to operator depending on the equipments. Parasailing at Tarkarli beach, also known as parascending, or “parakiting” is a recreational kiting activity where a person is towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while attached to a specially designed canopy wing that reminds one of a parachute, known as a parasail wing. The manned kite‘s moving anchor may be a car, truck, or boat. The harness attaches the pilot to the parasail, which is connected to the boat, or land vehicle, by the tow rope. The vehicle then drives off, carrying the parascender (or wing) and person into the air. If the boat is powerful enough, two or three people can parasail behind it at the same time. The parascender has little or no control over the parachute. Parasailing  is a much sought after sport in Tarkarli beach. People who love to soar high like a bird and have a bird's eye view of the coastline and the vast sea should try the parasailing sport. Para sailing is also known by the name of Para Ascending and is sure to set your pulses racing when you try it.
